So you fancy dressmaking but don't know where to start?
Maybe you've picked up a pattern and found it completely baffling!?
"Easy Dressmaking for Beginners" with Sewgirl (aka designer Fiona Hesford) will help you to navigate your way through a dress pattern, understanding fabric requirements, sizing and layout plans.
This is a one-day workshop covering lots of useful techniques to get you started in dressmaking. We learn how to read a dress pattern, then practise some essential dressmaking skills by making samples including gathering fabric, making darts, pleats, hemming tricks and inserting a zip.
Our final project is to make a lined zipped cosmetics/toiletries bag with a matching tissue holder. By the end of the session you should be able to make a simple garment from a commercial pattern.
All material is included as well as handouts and zipped bag pattern.Adults and children over 12+ are welcome. NB This course is *for people with some previous experience on a sewing machine and how to set up a sewing machine. If you have never used a sewing machine then please book onto our "Learn to Sew and Make Your Mother Proud" course first.*
