Free Shrug Pattern : Kid Silk Mohair hand dyed by Gilliangladrag
I am a MASSIVE fan of our kid silk mohair yarn, and wanted to write a free pattern for a simple shrug project that anyone could make - even if you have very little experience! This is the perfect project for anyone that is tired of knitting scarves and wants something slightly more challenging but still easy! Essentially you are knitting a giant rectangle and then sewing up the sides to form a shrug - which is basically a cross between a shawl and a cardigan. This kid silk mohair yarn is light and diaphanous, and yet also super warm, - it is literally like putting on a warm hug! :-) The fluffy fibres add an instant layer of warmth, and yet this yarn is light weight and super soft against the skin too. #WINWIN!

What you'll need to knit the Kid Silk Mohair Shrug :

You are only knitting 'STRAIGHT' - but the circular needles are longer and you will have a lot of stitches - so it's easier to use them! :-) xx

Free Shrug Knitting Pattern Instructions :

This is a roomy loose shrug. I'd recommend sizing down if you aren't sure!

Sizing : UK 8-12 Cast on 230 stitches; UK 14-16 Cast on 240 stitches; UK 18-20 cast on 270 stitches.

    1. 'Long Tail Cast On' 230 (240, 270) stitches on the 4mm circular needle
    2. K1 P1 to form a rib for 7 rows or approx 1 inch
    3. Change to 5mm circular needle
    4. Knit in stocking stitch until shrug measures approx 70cm from cast on edge.
    5. Change back to 4mm circular needle and repeat K1 P1 rib for another 7 rows or 1 inch.
    6. Cast off using 'Sewn Cast Off' (see YouTube for how to) which gives a little stretch and matches the long tail cast on pretty well in my opinion.

9. Use left over yarn to oversew the seam up to each armhole, then remove pins.

10. Insert your arms into the arm holes and enjoy! -)
This is a great shrug to throw on over a top or dress when you are feeling a bit chilly. As the yarn is so soft it's even great against bare skin! xx
