2 hours Private Sewing Tuition : perfect for worldwide pandemic situations ;-)

Who will be teaching me?

You will be taught by Lawratu (pictured) who was a contestant on the Great British Sewing bee in 2021 (how amazing is THAT!?) and LOVES making her own clothes. She has been dressmaking for over ten years & teaches regularly at STITCH festival and The Knitting and Stitching Show. You can follow her and see some of the clothes she makes on her Instagram account @sesamesew. She is passionate about sharing her love for the craft of sewing and the creative freedom making your own clothes brings. Lawratu will patiently guide you through any sewing skill you would like to master; whether that be threading a sewing machine for the first time, deciphering a sewing pattern or constructing more complex garments like jeans or jackets! She can turn her sewing hands to anything and is very friendly and down to earth! :-)

Who is it suitable for?

Everyone! This 2 hour private sewing workshop session can be tailored (pardon the pun) to your needs! :-) If you are a complete beginner and need to learn to thread the machine and make a simple cushion cover that's fine, or if you are more accomplished and want to learn something more advanced like making a garment that's also fine. You can buy this session in chunks of 2 hours, so if you wanted to book 4 hours, you would buy a quantity of 2 of these 2 hr sessions - and so on! Adults and children over 11 only please.

Where are your Private Sewing Tuition Sessions Held?

Private Sewing workshops are held 'in person' in our studio  at The Gilliangladrag Fluff-a-torium in Betchworth, Surrey UK. (There's a map at the foot of our home page!)

Is there a Virtual Digital Version available online?

If you can't travel to us for any reason, we can possibly arrange a virtual private class held online via Zoom etc. However, you would need to make sure you have the equipment required. Please email to discuss further.

Dates and times

2 hour sessions are usually held on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday during the day - or sometimes can be arranged at weekends, although our studio gets far more booked up at weekends.

We will endeavour to find a mutually agreeable date and time asap. If we can't then we will offer you a refund. Once booked - our regular Ts and Cs apply and it's not possible to cancel within 30 days of the mutually agreed date. We will send you confirmation of this date.

NB : We can only start to arrange a date and time AFTER you have booked and paid for your private session. If for any reason we can't find you a suitable date, then we can refund you. 99% of the time we organise dates that are mutually convenient with no problem, so please don't worry! :-) xx

What if there's 2 of us that would like to learn together. Is it the same price?

No it would be 50% more for the 2nd person to cover extra costs. You can still book this session and then we can invoice you for the rest. If there are more than 2 of you then please contact us for a bespoke quote. Please note that the max for a private sewing session is 2 people.

How many hours would I need to book to make certain things?

2 hours is sufficient for doing something straightforward and learning from scratch, and might also be suitable for tackling a certain part of making a simple garment. We can advise!! :-)

4 hours would be better for more complicated or bigger projects - dependent on the complexity of the item you are making. We can advise!! :-)

How much does it cost?

A 2 hour private sewing session costs £100 and 4 hours is £200 and so on. This is inclusive of VAT

What's included?

The session includes tuition with Fiona; the use of a new 'Janome' Sewing Machine; sewing threads and scissors and pins for use whilst with us etc, but you would need to bring your own fabric, and if you need to take the pins with you, you must use your own or purchase them too etc. There will be tape meaures and scissors for you to use in the studio.

We will also supply you with drinks & biscuits etc. PLUS you would also then be entitled to 10% discount in our shop "The Fluff-a-torium" on the day of your private sewing session! Wooohoooo :-)
