The Lyra Sweater Pattern by Sandnes is a beautifully fitted raglan sweater with a shaped neckline and wonderfully dramatic trumpet-shaped sleeves. And because it's knitted in Ballerina Chunky Mohair, you get that gorgeous fluffy halo and soft, cosy feel without having to knit with two different yarns.
One of the things we particularly like about Lyra is that you have a choice about how you construct it. The sweater can be knitted from the top down or from the bottom up, so you can choose the method that suits you best. The top-down version is worked in stocking stitch with raglan increases, with short rows used to create the shaped, deeper neckline before the work is divided for the sleeves, front and back. The bottom-up version uses raglan decreases instead. Both versions finish with those rather fabulous trumpet-shaped sleeves.
The fitted shape gives Lyra a more streamlined silhouette than a big, slouchy jumper, while the fluffy Ballerina Chunky Mohair keeps the finished sweater soft, light and wonderfully cosy. And those sleeves? They're definitely doing some of the heavy lifting in the style department.
Fluffy, fitted and rather fabulous
We think Lyra is a great pattern if you want something with a bit more shape and personality than a straightforward everyday sweater. The combination of a fitted raglan construction, shaped neckline and flared sleeves gives it a lovely modern silhouette, while the mohair adds texture and softness without making the design feel overly complicated.
It's also a particularly good pattern for colour. Ballerina Chunky Mohair comes in some seriously tempting shades, so you can keep things classic with a neutral or go for a colour that makes the fluffy texture and those sleeves really stand out.

The pattern includes instructions for both construction methods, so you can choose whether you'd rather work your sweater from the top down with raglan increases or from the bottom up with raglan decreases. Either way, you'll end up with the same fitted shape and those gloriously flared sleeves.
