2 hours Private Sewing Tuition: Your Personal Sewing Adventure Awaits!

Fancy a bit of dedicated sewing time? Our 2-hour private sewing session is just the ticket, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to expand your skills.

Meet Your Tutor

You'll be learning from the wonderful Lawratu (as pictured), a former contestant on the Great British Sewing Bee in 2021! How brilliant is that?! Lawratu has been making her own clothes for over ten years and shares her passion at events like STITCH festival and The Knitting and Stitching Show. You can find her on Instagram @sesamesew to see some of her fantastic creations. She's incredibly enthusiastic about sharing her love for sewing and the creative freedom it brings.

Lawratu will patiently guide you through whatever you'd like to learn, from threading a sewing machine for the very first time to unravelling the mysteries of a sewing pattern, or even tackling trickier projects like jeans or jackets! She's adaptable, friendly, and down to earth, ready to help you on your sewing journey.

Who's It For?

Absolutely everyone! This 2-hour private sewing workshop is tailored to you. Complete beginner needing to learn the basics and make a cushion cover? No problem! More experienced and want to tackle a garment? That's great too. You can book sessions in 2-hour blocks. If you'd like a 4-hour session, just purchase a quantity of 2. Please note that this is for adults and children over 11 only.

Where Does the Magic Happen?

Our private sewing workshops are held 'in person' at our studio, The Gilliangladrag Fluff-a-torium, in Betchworth, Surrey, UK. (You'll find a map at the bottom of our home page!)

Can't Make It in Person?

If you can't travel to us, we might be able to arrange a virtual private class via Zoom. Just make sure you have the necessary equipment. Drop us an email to discuss the possibilities.

Dates and Times

2-hour sessions are usually held on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays during the day. Weekend sessions can sometimes be arranged, although our studio is busier then.

We'll do our best to find a date and time that suits us both as quickly as possible. If we can't, we'll offer you a refund. Once booked, our standard terms and conditions apply, and cancellations aren't possible within 30 days of the agreed date. We'll send you confirmation of your booking.

Please note: We can only start arranging a date and time *after* you've booked and paid for your session. Don't worry, we manage to find mutually convenient dates the vast majority of the time! xx

Once booked, our regular Ts and Cs apply, and it's not possible to cancel within 30 days of the mutually agreed date. We will send you confirmation of this date.

Sewing with a Friend?

If two of you would like to learn together, it's an extra 50% to cover additional costs. Book this session, and we'll invoice you for the remainder. For more than two people, please contact us for a bespoke quote. The maximum number for a private session is two.

How Much Time Do I Need?

2 hours is usually enough for learning something simple from scratch or tackling a particular part of a simple garment. We can advise!

4 hours is better for more complicated or larger projects, depending on their complexity. Again, we can advise!

The Cost

A 2-hour private sewing session costs £100, and 4 hours is £200, and so on. This price includes VAT.

What's Included?

Your session includes tuition with Lawratu, the use of a shiny new 'Janome' sewing machine, sewing threads, scissors, and pins while you're with us. You'll need to bring your own fabric and, if you want to take pins with you, your own or purchase them from us. We'll have tape measures and scissors for you to use in the studio.

We'll also provide you with drinks and biscuits. Plus, you'll receive a 10% discount in our shop, "The Fluff-a-torium," on the day of your private sewing session! Woohoo!
