2 hours Private Weaving Tuition

Fancy learning the art of weaving in a one-on-one setting? Our private weaving tuition offers you the chance to delve into this wonderful craft with expert guidance tailored just for you.

Who's Teaching Me?

You'll be learning from the best! Your tutor will be either Hilary Charlesworth (as seen on TV with Kirstie Allsopp) or Gillian Harris, author of "Complete Feltmaking", "Carnival of Felting", "Felting Fabulous Flowers", and "Easy Stuff to Make with Fluff" and owner of The Gilliangladrag Fluff-a-torium. The tutor will depend on your learning preferences and what you'd like to focus on during your session.

Is This For Me?

Absolutely! This session is perfect for anyone new to weaving who wants to learn the basics on a small portable loom – like the ones we have available in our shop. Complete beginners are very welcome! If you have a larger loom or are interested in traditional large loom weaving, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss your needs. We'll start right from the beginning, covering all the essential techniques.

A 2-hour session is a great introduction and will get you started on creating your own wall hangings. For more in-depth knowledge and advanced techniques, we recommend a 4-hour session. This session is suitable for adults and children over the age of 11.

Where Does the Magic Happen?

Our private weaving workshops are held 'in person' at our studio, The Gilliangladrag Fluff-a-torium, in Betchworth, Surrey, UK. You can find a map at the bottom of our homepage!

Can I Learn Online?

If travelling isn't possible, we can arrange a virtual private class via Zoom. You'll need to purchase the equipment we typically use in class beforehand, so you can follow along seamlessly.

Dates and Times

2-hour sessions are generally held on weekdays during the day, but we can sometimes arrange weekend sessions, although our studio is much busier at weekends. We will work with you to find a date and time that suits us both as quickly as possible. If we are unable to find a mutually agreeable date, we will offer you a full refund. Once booked, our standard Terms and Conditions apply, and cancellations are not possible within 30 days of the agreed date. We will send you a confirmation email with all the details.

Important: We can only start arranging a date and time after you have booked and paid for your private session. Don't worry! We usually have no problems finding a convenient time for everyone.

Learning with a Friend?

If there are two of you that would like to learn together, it will be 50% more for the second person to cover the additional costs. Please book this session, and we'll invoice you for the remaining balance. For groups larger than two, please contact us for a personalised quote.

Group Bookings

For more than two people learning together, we charge £50 per extra person for the 2-hour session (maximum 5 students with 1 teacher = 6!). Book this session, and we'll invoice you for the additional amount.

How Long to Learn the Basics?

2 hours is ample time to learn the weaving basics. We will show you how to warp your loom and achieve various patterns and effects using different yarns and wool tops. You'll need your own loom, which you can bring or purchase on the day. You can also bring your own wool tops and yarns, or use the basic studio materials during your session. You may want to buy extra supplies to continue weaving at home!

How Much Does it Cost?

A 2-hour private weaving session costs £100 (inclusive of VAT). A 4-hour session is £200, and so on.

What's Included?

The session includes tuition and some wool to get you started. However, you'll need your own loom and warp thread. We provide drinks and biscuits to keep you going! Plus, you'll receive a 10% discount in our shop, "The Fluff-a-torium", on the day of your private weaving session! How brilliant is that?
