This is one of those makes that starts off as “I’ll just do a few rows” and somehow turns into “Oh! I’ve nearly finished already.” It’s light, soft, joyful to knit and produces a beautiful striped triangular scarf (or neckerchief, if you prefer) that adds instant personality to any outfit.

What you’ll be making

Using our carefully chosen yarn and pattern, you’ll knit a striped triangular scarf measuring approximately 1 metre wide and 35cm deep. The shape is flattering, practical and endlessly useful — tied at the front, worn loosely round the neck, styled bandana-style, or even popped under a coat for a flash of colour.

The stripes give you a playful rhythm while knitting, and the finished scarf feels fresh, modern and very “effortlessly put-together”.

The yarn: soft, light and a dream to knit

We’ve chosen Baby Dream by Rico or Mrs Moon Plump DK for this kit — and for very good reason.

Baby Dream yarn is:

• Super soft and gentle against the skin (50% acrylic 50% polyamide)
• Washable at 30 degrees
• Lightweight, making it perfect for year-round wear
• Smooth and easy to work with (especially kind to beginner hands)
• Beautifully suited to colour-work stripes
• Oeko-tex standard 100

It creates a fabric that drapes beautifully without feeling heavy or bulky, so your finished scarf sits just right rather than overwhelming your outfit. It is as soft as cashmere.

Mrs Moon Plump DK yarn is

• A beautiful soft and squishy blend of ethically sourced 80% superfine merino and 20% baby alpaca (recommend hand wash only)
• A wonderfully soft yarn that's an absolute joy to work with and is super soft against your skin.
• A luxurious blend giving a slightly heavier and more of a luxe finish compared to the baby dream.

The pattern: simple, clear and confidence-boosting

The Buoy Bandana is designed by Shan Fran via our Ravelry LYS partnership, with beginners firmly in mind. The pattern walks you through the process clearly and calmly, with no unnecessary faff.

You’ll learn:

• How to knit a triangular shape.
• How to work simple stripes - simply carry each colour up the side for a neat finish.
• How to create a neat, wearable finish.

There’s also an optional crocheted edge, which adds a lovely decorative detail if you fancy giving it a go — but it’s entirely optional, so you can absolutely skip it if crochet isn’t your thing (yet!). Please note you MAY need extra yarn for the crocheted edge - depending on the way you knit.

• 4mm knitting needles
