We are absolutely head-over-heels for Malabrigo Mechita. If you haven’t squished this yet, you are in for a real treat. It’s a fingering-weight, single-ply yarn made from 100% Superwash Merino, which means it is obscenely soft against the skin. Because it’s "kettle-dyed" by hand, the depth of colour is just breathtaking. "Patrick" is a beautifully curated mix of tones that shift and shimmer as you work, giving your project a rich, artisanal feel that you just can’t get from mass-produced wool.

This hand dyed yarn Mechita is a bit of a multitasker in the stash. It’s light and elegant, making it our top pick for floaty shawls, delicate lace-work, or a very special baby cardigan. Because it’s a single-ply, the stitch definition is wonderfully smooth, so your cables and textures will really pop. It’s the kind of yarn that makes the "making" part feel like a spa day for your fingers!

Tips for the perfect handmade finish

We’ve rated this for everyone from Beginners to Confident makers. One thing we always like to mention to our fellow crafters is that because these are hand-dyed in small batches, every single skein is a unique little snowflake. Even within the same bag, you might find subtle (or not-so-subtle!) variations.

To make sure your colours look perfectly blended, we recommend working from two balls at once, alternating every few rows. It’s a tiny bit more effort, but we promise the result is worth it! And because it's a superwash, you can pop it on a cold, gentle machine cycle - though we always suggest drying flat to keep your hard work looking tip-top. Just make sure you grab enough for your project in one go, as once a dye lot is gone, it’s gone!
