We absolutely love a slipover (or "tank top" if you prefer!) because they are the ultimate wardrobe workhorse. They look just as lovely over a breezy summer dress as they do layered over a crisp white shirt when the British weather decides to be, well, British. This kit features the iconic design by PetiteKnit, and we’ve paired it with a truly luxurious yarn combination: the soft, bouncy Sandnes Garn Double Sunday held together with a strand of silk mohair. The result? A knitted fabric that is squishy, slightly fuzzy, and feels like a total treat against the skin.
The best part about this kit is that it really does live up to its "Novice" name. We know that casting on your first "proper" garment can feel a bit daunting, but the instructions are wonderfully clear and encouraging. You’ll work from the top down in straightforward stocking stitch, which means you can try it on as you go - no nasty surprises at the end! It’s an honest, slow-fashion staple that teaches you the basics of garment construction without any of the stress.
Simple techniques for a stunning finish
This project is rated this as a Beginner (1/5) difficulty project. If you can knit and purl, you can absolutely make this. You’ll start with the back yoke, then pick up stitches for the shoulders to create the front. Once you join them at the underarms, it’s a lovely, meditative "knit in the round" all the way to the hem. Finishing off with neat rib edges at the armholes and neck gives it that professional, "I can’t believe you made that!" look.
Because the kit uses Double Sunday - a pure merino wool that isn't superwash treated - your slipover will have a beautiful, authentic woolly handle that holds its shape for years. It’s the perfect introduction to the joy of making your own clothes. We’ll provide the yarn and the pattern; you just need to provide the tea, the biscuits, and a little bit of time. You’ve got this!
Size guide

The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100)
The Novice Slipover is designed to have approx. 15 cm [6 inches] of positive ease. The sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) are designed to fit a bust circumference of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm [31½-33½ (33½-35½) 35½-37½ (37½-39½) 39½-43¼ (43¼-47¼) 47¼-51¼ (51¼-55) 55-59 inches]. The measurements for the finished garment are given on the first page of the pattern. Before beginning your project, measure yourself to determine which size will fit you best. For example, if you measure 90 cm [35½ inches] around your bust (or around the widest part of your upper body) you should knit a size S. A size S slipover has a bust circumference of 105 cm [41¼ inches], which in the given example would give you 15 cm [6 inches] of positive ease.
