We think there is nothing quite as charming as a hand-knitted bonnet, and this kit is a real gem for anyone wanting to create something special for a little one. Whether you are welcoming a new arrival or knitting for a toddler, this pattern covers everything from tiny 0-3 month sizes up to 3 years. We’ve paired this beautiful PetiteKnit design with Sandnes Duo, which we think is the absolute "dream team" choice. Because it’s a mix of merino wool and pima cotton, it’s exceptionally soft against a baby’s delicate forehead and - most importantly - it won’t itch!

The bonnet features a lovely, delicate eyelet pattern that looks far more complicated than it actually is, giving it a timeless, vintage feel. However, we love a bit of versatility here at Gilliangladrag, so if you fancy a cleaner, more modern look, you can easily work the whole thing in simple stocking stitch. It’s a wonderful way to tailor the gift to the parents’ style while keeping that gorgeous, snug fit.

What's included:

  • The yarn for the bonnet
  • A PDF copy of the Petiteknit pattern via our LYS Ravelry partnership. This will be emailed within approx 48 hours.

You'll also need :

  • Size 3 mm (U.S. size 3) needles, size 3 mm double pointed needles. Try a size smaller or larger if you have trouble obtaining gauge.

A satisfying "quick knit" for your weekend

We’ve rated this kit as Intermediate (3/5). It’s an ideal project for those who are comfortable knitting back and forth and are ready to try a bit of crown shaping. You’ll start at the forehead and work towards the back, eventually moving onto double-pointed needles to close the crown with neat decreases. We’ve included four lovely colour options in the kit, so you can choose the perfect hue to match a specific outfit or nursery.

To finish, you’ll pick up stitches for a tidy rib edge along the bottom and attach the ties for that classic bonnet silhouette. Because it’s a relatively small project, it’s incredibly satisfying to see it come together in just a few sittings. It’s an authentic, handmade treasure that provides warmth, comfort, and a whole lot of "aww" factor.
