A little bit dramatic, a little bit clever, and completely addictive to knit – the Storm Shawl Knitting Kit Pack is one of those projects that quietly turns into a favourite.

Using just a single skein of precious fingering weight yarn, this shawl knitting kit pack creates something far bigger and more striking than you’d expect. The magic is in the construction of the pattern by knitting designer Joji Locatelli – dropped stitches and short rows give it that beautifully deconstructed feel, while clever shaping builds a generous crescent you can really wrap yourself up in.

It’s the sort of knit that keeps you interested. Not difficult for the sake of it, but engaging enough that you’ll find yourself thinking “just one more row” more often than planned.

What’s inside and what to expect

Inside your kit you’ll find:

  • 1 skein of Mechita by Malabrigo – a gorgeously soft, kettle dyed merino yarn full of depth and character. Choose between 3 colours : Alice (the blue colour) and Arco Iris (the rainbow colour) and Neverland (the pink colour)
  • The Storm Shawl pattern by Joji Locatelli as a PDF which will be emailed to you within approx 48 hours from purchase via our Ravelry partnership

You’ll also need:

  • 4.5 mm (US 7) needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Blocking pins or wires

This is an intermediate project, ideal if you’re comfortable with the basics and ready to explore a few more interesting techniques like short rows and dropped stitches.

Finished size (after blocking):
Approx. 160 cm wide and 39 cm deep at the centre

Gauge:
15.5 stitches and 32 rows to 10 cm in garter stitch

Construction:
Worked from the centre top down, increasing at each side to create that soft crescent shape

Why we love it :

There’s something rather satisfying about making something that looks this good from just one skein. The kettle dyed yarn does a lot of the visual work for you – those subtle shifts in colour bring every stitch to life.

And then there’s the texture. The dropped stitches give it movement and a slightly undone feel, while the shaping keeps it wearable and flattering.

It’s:

  • light but still cosy
  • interesting without being overwhelming
  • and wonderfully versatile once finished

Perfect for those in-between days when you want a layer that’s not too heavy but still feels like a proper hug.
