We all have that one favourite cardigan we reach for time and time again, and we’re convinced the Eva Cardigan by PetiteKnit is about to take that top spot in your wardrobe. It is a classic, V-neck design that is purely practical and effortlessly stylish. For this Cardigan Kit, we’ve chosen the deep, sophisticated 'Night Sky Blue' in our beloved Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt. This 100% Norwegian wool is the perfect match for Eva and is the yarn PetiteKnit uses in this pattern; it’s sturdy, warm, and has that wonderful resilience that ensures your cardigan will stay looking sharp for decades, getting softer every time you pop it on.
The construction is a real treat for those who enjoy a bit of "architectural" knitting. You’ll work from the top down, starting with the back yoke before picking up stitches for the shoulders and joining everything to shape that elegant V-neck. The body is worked back and forth, and the sleeves are knitted in the round, meaning there’s very little sewing to do at the end. The final touch - a wide, squishy 2 x 2 rib front placket - gives the Eva its signature high-end look and a lovely, substantial feel.
A project to sink your teeth into
With a difficulty rating of 4 out of 5 stars, the Eva Cardigan is a project for the makers who feel confident with their needles and fancy a bit of a challenge. It’s not about being "hard" for the sake of it, but rather about enjoying the clever techniques - like specific increases and picking up stitches - that result in a beautifully tailored fit. Don't worry, though - PetiteKnit provides brilliant video tutorials for the techniques used, so you’ll have expert guidance throughout the make.
Size Guide
The Eva Cardigan is designed to have approx. 26 cm [10¼ inches] of positive ease in the smaller sizes and then gradually less positive ease in the larger sizes. The sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) are designed to fit a bust circumference of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm [29½-31½ (31½-33½) 33½-35½ (35½-37½) 37½-39½ (39½-43¼) 43¼-47¼ (47¼-51¼) 51¼-55 (55-59) inches].
The measurements for the finished cardigan are listed on the front page of the pattern. Please note that these measurements are only achieved if the correct gauge is maintained. Measure yourself before starting your project, to determine which size will fit you the best. For example, if you measure 90 cm [35½ inches] around your bust (or around the widest part of your upper body) you should knit a size S. A size S cardigan has a bust circumference of 116 cm [45¾ inches] which in the given example would give you 26 cm [10¼ inches] of positive ease.
