A seriously wearable sweater with a lovely bit of luxury 🧶

The Mindy Sweater Chunky Edition Pattern by Sandnes is one of those designs that manages to look effortlessly stylish while still being a really satisfying knit. Worked from the top down, it combines Sandnes Peer Gynt with a strand of fluffy mohair for a light, soft and beautifully cosy fabric.

The construction gives the sweater its flattering shape, with the back worked first to create the sloping shoulders, followed by the fronts and then the body, which is worked in the round. The sleeves are also worked in the round, with gentle shaping before the ribbed cuffs, and the neckband is picked up and finished afterwards.

We love the way the two yarns work together here. Peer Gynt gives the sweater structure, warmth and lovely stitch definition, while the mohair adds a soft halo and a touch of luxury without making the finished fabric feel heavy. It's the sort of combination that makes a very everyday sweater feel just that little bit special.

And because it's knitted on 4.5mm and 5mm needles, this is definitely not one of those projects where you need to prepare yourself for approximately three years of knitting. There are enough stitches to keep things interesting, but the chunky-edition construction means you can actually see your sweater growing.

The Mindy Sweater has a wonderfully versatile shape and is designed to be worn again and again. Make it in a classic neutral for maximum wardrobe mileage, choose two closely matched shades for a beautifully understated look, or have some fun with contrasting Peer Gynt and mohair colours.

The original Sandnes pattern uses one strand of Peer Gynt together with one strand of Tynn Silk Mohair throughout. For our version, we recommend substituting Rico Super Kid Mohair Silk, which we stock in a huge range of colours. Rico's yarn is 70% Super Kid Mohair and 30% Silk, with approximately 200 metres per 25g ball, making it a practical alternative to the Tynn Silk Mohair specified in the pattern.

As with any yarn substitution, we strongly recommend knitting a tension square and checking your meterage before starting.
