"Playdate" Cardigans Knitting Pattern (Baby to 4XL!)

This pattern is for the "Simple Everyday Cardi", a wonderfully classic design suitable for both babies and adults. Imagine crafting adorable matching cardigans for mother and baby, father and baby, or even the whole family – grandma included! The sizing is incredibly inclusive, ranging from 0-3 months all the way up to Adult 4XL!

We think this pattern is absolutely perfect for our lovely Malabrigo Mechita yarn, but it'll also work beautifully with any other sock weight yarn. Just be sure to check your gauge to ensure the best results.

As the pattern designer themselves say, "Babies always need a classic cardigan in their wardrobe. They can wear it over a button down onesie for a semi- formal affair, or throw it on over a t-shirt for a casual tea party with friends!" And, of course, the very same applies to grown-ups too!

This cardigan is cleverly knitted in one piece from the bottom hem up to the underarm. Then, the fronts and back are separated and worked individually. The shoulder seams are joined, and then the sleeves are picked up and knitted down to the cuff. Finally, the button bands are picked up and worked to complete the project.

Yarn & Needles

• Yarn Weight: Fingering / sock weight yarn - refer to table in the picture for specific yardage requirements.
• Needles: US #3 / 3.25mm and US #5 / 3.75 mm; (or whatever size you need to achieve gauge). You'll need circular needles and DPNs in each size (a 40cm circular needle is ideal for smaller sizes, while 60-80cm circulars are better for larger sizes).
• Gauge: 24 stitches & 36 rows / 4” in stockinette stitch using the larger needles.
