Rico Soft Alpaca : 023 Sage

A lovely soft green with a slightly muted, natural feel, 023 Sage is one of those colours that makes a yarn stash feel instantly more sophisticated. Calm without being boring, earthy without being too rustic, it's a gorgeous shade for everyday knits and a particularly good friend to other colours.

Rico Soft Alpaca combines 60% acrylic, 20% alpaca and 20% mulesing-free wool to create a beautifully soft, plump yarn with a gentle halo. The alpaca and wool bring warmth and softness, while the acrylic helps make this a practical yarn for projects you'll actually want to wear and use.

Sage is wonderfully easy on the eye and pairs beautifully with creams, natural shades, dusty pinks, mustard, rust and deeper greens. Use it for a whole garment when you want something quietly lovely, or bring it into stripes and colourwork for a softer, more botanical palette.

It's a DK weight yarn that works beautifully on 4mm needles, with a lovely stitch definition and cosy drape. Feeling like something a little more substantial? It can also be knitted as an aran weight using 4.5mm needles, giving you a chunkier fabric without changing yarn.

Each 50g ball contains 125 metres, so you've got plenty of yarn to play with for hats, scarves, jumpers, cardigans and other cosy creations. As a general guide, around 500g will make a standard adult-sized jumper, although always check the requirements of your chosen pattern.

We think 023 Sage is a bit of a wardrobe hero - understated enough to wear with almost anything, but with enough colour to keep things interesting. Basically, it's the yarn equivalent of finding the perfect comfy jumper and immediately deciding you need one in every colour.
